Library Technician (Children’s Department), Laconia Public Library, (Laconia, NH)

The Laconia Public Library is seeking a warm and welcoming full-time Library Technician to work
primarily in the vibrant Children’s Department alongside the Children’s Librarian. Educators and
individuals with knowledge of early childhood development are strongly encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Plan and implement children’s programming
  • Assist with juvenile collection development
  • Provide reader’s advisory for children, caregivers, and teachers
  • Staff circulation desks, including the adult circulation desk
  • Assist patrons with using the library’s public computers, software, Internet browsers, databases, and electronic media
  • Share responsibility for building supervision. Enforce the Library’s Behavior Policy

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • A passion for engaging and inspiring children of all ages
  • Working knowledge and appreciation of children’s literature
  • Commitment to providing outstanding customer service, at times under trying circumstances
  • Must be able to work independently and cooperatively as a team member
  • Excellent communication, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency with current technology (software, applications, devices) and willingness and ability to adapt to evolving technological environments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s Degree and two years’ experience in library services; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides similar knowledge, ability, and skills.

SCHEDULE:
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, including one evening per week and a Saturday rotation.
COMPENSATION:
$20.34 – $21.37 per hour depending upon qualifications and an excellent benefits package including participation in the NH Retirement System.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to push or pull carts, do a moderate amount of bending, squatting, lifting (up to 40 pounds), stretching and standing for extended periods of time.
