Description

This is a one-year contract term appointment with the possibility of renewal up to a three-year term. MIT Lincoln Laboratory (MIT/LL) Knowledge Services is seeking an Archives Project Assistant. Job Description:
The Archives Project Assistant works on projects involving the appraisal and processing of historic Laboratory program materials and related Archives documentation to enhance collection development, preservation and access. Responsibilities include: assisting with coordination of record reviews, legacy collection evaluations, audiovisual and digital media assessments, digitization, and data entry of accurate metadata within Archives, Library, and other content management tools to maximize the Archives collection’s accessibility and use as a research record. Other Archives responsibilities may include: accessions, archives operational tasks, exhibits, and special projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Data entry and updates within archives management and library catalog systems
  • Digitization of archival documents, with scan quality assurance and editing
  • Assistance to Media Archivist on audiovisual media projects
  • Arrangement and description of Laboratory historical records
  • Entry and enhancement of database records to provide intellectual access to materials.
  • Coordination with other onsite stakeholders as necessary to enhance access to and control of historical Laboratory documents
  • Research on Laboratory history and programs for appraisal, processing, research, and for the development of exhibits
  • Support for and participation in other related work as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Library/Archives coursework preferred. A background in science or engineering is helpful.
  • Familiarity with library/archives operations is required, with 1 year of relevant work experience using Archives or Library systems. Practical knowledge of library catalog tools such as SirsiDynix and archives management tools is a plus.
  • Compelling interest in archival work and an excellent aptitude for related skills including: organization, meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving, follow-through, and decision-making.
  • Experience with scanning software, hardware, and applications, including Adobe products
  • Practical hands-on experience working with audiovisual media and hardware
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and tactfully
  • Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and meet goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative teamwork environment
  • Candidate must be highly motivated, dedicated, curious, and enthusiastic
  • Must be able and willing to lift 40 lb. boxes

Experience with handling sensitive and/or classified information preferred
Must be able to obtain DoD Security Clearance (normal procedures, see below)
SECURITY: Personnel working at the Laboratory are required to have a DoD Security Clearance to the SECRET level. Personnel cleared Interim Secret may work at the Laboratory pending the issuance of further clearance. Proposals should indicate the clearance status of each person proposed. All personnel are required to have United States Citizenship.
