HEAD OF USER SERVICES, BUMC Alumni Medical Library, (Boston, MA)

Job Description

The Alumni Medical Library at Boston University seeks a collaborative professional to serve as Head of User Services, having broad responsibility over access services, library acquisitions and assessment. Reporting to the Associate Director of Collections and User Services, the Head of User Services oversees the access services functions of the library, including library staffing, circulation and course reserves. This wide ranging management position also participates in acquisitions and collection development processes including analysis and decision-making and coordinates library assessment by identifying existing data sources and investigating gaps. This position directly supervises three access services staff and indirectly ten part-time student workers. The successful candidate will contribute to overall management of the library by aligning departmental activities to the library’s strategic plan and by serving on the library management council. Occasional nights and weekends may be required for coverage. Depending on demand, this position may provide back-up reference and instruction. The successful candidate will hold a master’s degree in library and information science or related degree and at least 2 years experience in a library setting. Experience with supervision, circulation, reserves, integrated library systems, stacks management, assessment and/or collection development welcome. We will train the right person and encourage applicants from a variety of libraries, lived experiences, and backgrounds.
