2023 ABOS Awards Program (Scholarship)
Posted May 17, 2023
The Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS) is proud to announce that our 2023 ABOS Awards Program is now open.
ABOS is sponsoring a scholarship for library school students: the Bernard Vavrek Scholarship. Dr. Bernard Vavrek, Professor of Library Science, Chair of the Library Science Department at Clarion University, co-founded with John Philip the “Great American Bookmobile Conference,” running it for many years until ABOS was formed and took over management of the conference. This scholarship honors Dr. Vavrek’s profound commitment to library science and, in particular, bookmobile and outreach services. The winner receives $1,000 towards the Spring 2024 semester of their schooling, which will be sent directly to their library school
We would like to announce that we have a new award this year: the MMI Award (Me, Myself and I). The MMI award will be presented annually to an individual who displays an outstanding work ethic which includes ambition, confidence, dependability, determination, and eagerness. The candidate should also have a vision for expanding outreach and/or bookmobile service for the betterment of their community. Available to all library staff/job classifications. This award offers a free 1-year membership to ABOS.
