Join the friendly staff of the MIT Libraries’ Department of Distinctive Collections (DDC) and help improve access to collections!

We are looking for four dependable and organized people to work 30 hours per week onsite on a shelf read project. The work will involve comparing information about DDC archival collections, publications, and rare books to the physical materials in the DDC storage space and noting any discrepancies. Some physical rehousing and data entry may also be included. Training for the shelf read project and other potential tasks will be provided.

Onsite work will not be available for nine pre-determined days throughout the summer. Employees will be given the option to take unpaid time off or work remotely, with remote projects focused on data entry and data clean up. Candidates will need to provide their own computer and internet connection for remote work.

Good written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail are required. Previous experience working in a library or archives or experience with data entry, Excel, Google Sheets, or Airtable is preferred.

Applicants must be able to maintain a consistent schedule of 30 hours/week during the hours of 9:00am-4:00pm (1 hour lunch break), Monday-Friday. These are short-term positions without possibility of renewal. The pay rate is $18 per hour.
