Description:
The Research & Instruction Librarian works within a team of librarians based out of the McBay Science library, providing in-person and virtual reference assistance, teaching library instruction sessions, and holding one-on-one in-depth research consultations with particular emphasis on the sciences. The librarian develops instructional resources for students and faculty, provides training on citation management programs, and assists with systematic reviews. This librarian will focus their campus engagement in areas such as the physical sciences, life sciences, and engineering. This position also engages in select collection duties in these areas.
This position reports to the McBay Science Coordinator of Public Services and is housed within the Research and Instruction department.
Minimum Qualifications:
An ALA-accredited master’s degree in librarianship/information science or foreign equivalent.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in the sciences or demonstrated interest in library research in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
- Ability to develop engaging instruction sessions and to instruct users effectively both individually and in the classroom setting.
- Background or demonstrated interest in STEM.
- Familiarity with or interest in systematic reviews.
- Familiarity with citation management programs.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion and accessibility in the workplace and particularly with regard to the delivery of information resources.
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to create and maintain productive, long-term, effective working relationships with faculty, students, and colleagues.
