The Forest Park Branch Library is one of the busiest in our beautiful city. The branch is a historic Carnegie library building with a Community Room for programming and performances. Outside you’ll find a Reading Garden, our neighborhood partner the Forest Park Middle School, and, at the end of the block, the entrance to a 700+ acre gem of a public park. The East Forest Park Branch Library was built in 2019 and features a well-equipped Community Room, quiet study rooms, a Makerspace, and expansive Children’s Room and Teen Room. Very popular with afterschool visitors, browsers, and business center users, it is nestled in a residential neighborhood and part of a learning corridor that includes a public school and a high school. The Manager at our East Forest Park and Forest Park branches is responsible for leading the teams of these two libraries. This includes staff hiring and mentoring, public interaction, programming, administrative duties, system-wide initiatives, and community engagement. Work is performed with professional independent administrative judgment in accordance with the policies and objectives of the Library. Supervision is exercised over a team of twelve people, including a supervisor at each location.

Located in western Massachusetts on the banks of the Connecticut River and spreading eastward, the “City of Homes” offers a mixed housing stock, from expansive Victorians to neighborly apartment blocks. Its flat landscape of 33 square miles is home to the 730 acre Forest Park and the Basketball Hall of Fame. Springfield City Library is community-centered and has a Central Library and 8 branches. Qualifications:

We’re looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and the completion of an American Library Association-accredited Masters of Library Science. A minimum of five years of professional library experience is desired, including some administrative experience. You’ll need an excellent customer service orientation, and a “turned outward” approach to community engagement is ideal. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Dari, or other community language). The City of Springfield has a residency requirement and allows new hires up to a year to establish residency.
