Part-time Youth services librarian, Wayland, MA

Description:

The Wayland Free Public Library seeks qualified candidates for a part-time Professional Youth Services Librarian in a busy, medium-sized public library. Helps children and families locate materials and information. 

Performs various tasks relating to the circulation of children’s materials, including but not limited to checking books in and out, collecting fines, answering patron queries, assigning new library cards to patrons, and other duties as necessary. Possibility of providing programing for pre-school, elementary aged children, and/or teens. May be assigned responsibilities related to the opening and closing of the library facility. At least one weekend shift per month. Additional shifts possible, including evenings. Must be willing to cover other shifts on short notice.

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master of Science in Library Science or Education.

Experience: At least two (2) years’ experience working with children or teens.

Physical Requirements:

Must be physically capable of shelving books: ability to lift, bend, kneel, stoop, and be able to push a book cart weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate a keyboard at efficient speed and sit at a computer for long periods of time.  Specific vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

Part-Time: up to 19 hours per week, some evenings and 1-2 Saturdays/Sundays a month

Grade: Non-Union

Wages: $28.76 – $33.76 per hour no benefits
