Archives Internship, Sisters of the Presentation, San Francisco, CA 

Job Description

Presentation Archives, located in the motherhouse of the Sisters of the Presentation in San Francisco, seeks a part time intern to assist their archivist. Intern must be willing to wear a mask, must adhere to current Covid protocols, and understand that they are entering a congregate living setting where older people reside. We offer a small stipend to offset the cost of transportation.  Number of hours per week and schedule is flexible, and the archive is open 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Mondays-Thursdays.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to use ArchivesSpace and assist archivist in completing a revised inventory of the collection and entering it into ArchivesSpace. 
  • Choose a topic for a monthly newsletter, find photos, scan them, and see the newsletter sent out. 
  • Assist archivist with processing a backlog of collections to be processed. 
  • Get to know how a small archive works day to day. 
  • Learn about the process of preparing an archive to be moved. 

About Presentation Archives

Established in 1975, the mission of Presentation Archives is to centralize, organize, preserve, protect, and make available unique records and materials which pertain to the origin, history, spirit, and growth of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (PBVM) and its members. 

The archival collections reflect the institutional history of the Sisters of the Presentation and their various individual ministries since the time of their foundation in San Francisco, California in 1854 up to present day. Collections spanning the years since 1854 document the sisters’ lives and their ministries in California, New Mexico, and Washington; and on sisters’ ministries in response to Vatican II, including mission work in Mexico and Guatemala, and their involvement in social justice issues. Administrative records include minutes of general councils, chapter assemblies and various committees, including national and international groups. Additional collections include artifacts such as objects from convent life; photographs; scrapbooks; and Audio/Visual materials.
