Job Summary

The Bedford Public Library seeks a friendly, professional librarian to work part time in our Reference and Reader Services Department and assist with adult and young adult services, including programs. The Library is open to the public 62 hours per week.

The salary is $23.32 – $33.56 per hour.

The part-time position will require 20-25 hours per week, including one night per week and Saturdays/Sundays in a rotation.

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist patrons of all ages with print and electronic resources, including online databases, the Polaris online catalog, and the Library’s eBook services.
Provide readers advisory.
Assist patrons with interlibrary loans.
Participate in collection development.
Participate in marketing, including social media
Work as a team with reference librarians to create and implement programs and events for adults and young adults
Occasionally oversee volunteers

Qualifications

Applicants must have proficiency with technology, including social media, tablet computers, virtual
meeting platforms, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of the Polaris ILS is helpful. Applicants must have
excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when responding to patron queries. The ability to multitask and complete long-term tasks, while responding to questions at the Reference Desk, is essential. Experience developing programs and marketing library services is helpful. MLS or MLS candidate who has completed their reference coursework is preferred.
