Description
The Learning, Research & Technology department at Smith College seeks applicants for a paid graduate student internship to support the work of the User Experience Librarian, Sika Berger, and the Assessment & User Experience Team.
The Smith College Libraries staff follow principles of user-centered design in our approach to developing a new website or improving tools, services and spaces. The UX Lab is a dedicated facility with two equipped rooms located in the Neilson Library complex. Services for students, faculty, and staff are under development.
The internship is designed to build knowledge and skills for students with an expressed interest in learning about user experience practices within a liberal arts college environment. As a key partner in the establishment and promotion of a new service model, interns will engage in outreach activities, prepare and manage educational resources, help to organize content for library staff as well as end-users, facilitate UX studies, and conduct training or workshop sessions.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Update and develop new documentation for UX facilities and equipment; inventory supplies
- Prepare public-facing web-based guides and staff-directed shared information on UX services, methods, educational materials and reports
- Assist the UX librarian in developing plans, promoting and conducting community engagement and programming
- Participate in various phases of UX projects for the Libraries
- Staff the UX Lab for drop-in hours and scheduled consultations
- Assist members of the Smith community with the UX Lab’s resources and services
- Plan, create and present one or more training modules, UX showcase, or open
