Coordinator of Community Planning, Pollard Memorial Library, Lowell, MA

Job Summary

Publicizes and promotes all library services and programs and coordinates all adult programming as
a member of the library management team.

Rate of pay: $31.3011 (min) to $35.1434 (max) per hour includes Educational incentive for MLS

Schedule: 35 hrs per week; Evenings and weekends as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all publicity relating to library services and activities:
  • Responsible for all adult programming (not including the Literacy Program)
  • Supervises and trains departmental staff providing adult outreach services;
  • Acts as staff liaison to the Friends of the Library and other community groups and agencies;
  • Coordinates the library’s volunteer program;
  • Staffs reference desk as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned;

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities are included in this position. This position supervises the Community Planning Department. There are two other employees who report directly to this position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Library Science form an ALA-accredited school required.
  • Supervisory experience in a public library and public relations skills desirable.
  • Commitment to public service in a diverse urban community essential.

Language Skills

Individuals with bilingual skills are encouraged to apply. (English/Spanish or English/Khmer)

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to library patrons.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
