Outreach and Engagement Librarian, Denison University, Granville, OH

Description:

Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Outreach and Engagement Librarian will help bring fresh insight and initiatives to our current reference and outreach efforts. You will extend outreach to administrative and service units on campus, building or strengthening relationships with Student Life and other academic support areas, as well as off-campus stakeholders such as Granville High School and the Granville Public Library. You will also enhance marketing and assessment efforts to ensure that outcomes are being met across the library and the college.

  • Lead the development, provision, and assessment of the Libraries’ outreach initiatives, such as new student orientations, programs for first-generation and transfer students, and activities designed to foster student success and lifelong learning by building relationships with over ten offices across campus, such as Educational Technologists, First-Year Experience and the Lisska Center for Intellectual Engagement.
  • Promote library services and programming to students, faculty, staff, and community members through outreach and marketing, including, but not limited to, successful social media marketing campaigns and coordination with campus marketing groups.
  • Coordinate reference desk service and supervise student reference assistants, providing direction, training, and mentoring.
  • Take an active role in developing and implementing co-curricular and extracurricular library programming, such as workshops, events, and designing exhibits.
  • Work in conjunction with other Denison librarians to create electronic educational resources, videos/tutorials, etc. and make those resources and materials accessible to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Participate in the normal activities of all librarians, including but not limited to general reference work, including weekend and evening rotations, committee assignments, and basic and course- specific instruction.

Qualifications:

Required:

–ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree.

–Experience with information resources used in academic libraries.

–Demonstrated adaptability with changing technologies and their impact on workflow.

–Excellent analytical skills with a positive, proactive, and creative approach to problem-solving.

–Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

–Experience collaborating with others and managing multiple priorities and projects.

–Demonstrated student-centered mindset.

–Demonstrated desire to seek professional growth.

–Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism.

Preferred:

–Additional advanced degree in a related field or advanced certification.

–Experience teaching information literacy.

–Project management experience, including successfully managing change.

–Interest in teaching and training others.

–Knowledge of the current trends, challenges, and opportunities provided by electronic/digital platforms and an understanding of the research behaviors of today’s learners.

–Experience working with or supervising students.
