Teaching Assistant/Counselor, Summer @ Carroll, (Massachusetts)

Summer Program: June 28, 2023 to August 2, 2023 (no program July 3rd and July 4th)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:15 am to 4:15 pm
Staff Orientation: June 26th and June 27th

Summer School Overview:
Summer@Carroll is a five-week summer school program for students entering grades 1-9 who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning difference, such as dyslexia. Position Summary:
This position reports to the Enrichment Supervisor for their assigned grade range in Waltham (grades 1-4) or Lincoln grades (grades 5-9). In the mornings, this position serves as a Teaching Assistant, supporting students and working under the direction of an experienced teacher in classes such as math, writing, or activity block. This position serves as a Counselor every afternoon, leading groups of approximately 6-10 students in fun activities. During some afternoon periods, an Activity Director plans the activity. Other periods require the Teaching Assistant/Counselor to plan the activity.
Responsibilities:
● Follows the daily schedule in supporting teachers during class time and planning or executing
the afternoon enrichment activities
● Supervises and positively encourages all the students in the group
● When necessary, redirects individual students’ behavior to maintain a positive group dynamic
● Instructs and includes the Junior Counselor/CIT in group activities
● Organizes, plans, and encourages student participation in special theme day activities
● Updates Supervisor regarding any issues impacting the students’ readiness to positively
interact within the group
● Attend mandatory Staff Orientation on June 26-27, 2023
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Prior experience working with children is beneficial
● Entering Sophomore year of college or beyond in the fall of 2023

● Fully vaccinated against Covid – 19
