The Town of Hopkinton seeks a Senior Library Assistant (19 hours/week or less) with enthusiasm and a love of public service for its recently renovated and grand public library.

Senior Library Assistant

Hourly rate: $22.26

Hours: 19 hours per week or less; hours include evenings and a rotating weekend schedule.  

Staff may also be asked to cover available shifts that substitutes are unable to take.

The Senior Library Assistant performs more complex administrative and clerical work in support of the daily operations of the Library while providing customer service to patrons; requires tact and discretion working in a flexible work environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School equivalency and three (3) or more years of relevant customer service experience within a public library system, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Associate’s Degree or some additional library coursework preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: 

  • Knowledge of customer service best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences including public officials and the general public.
  • Ability to learn computer operations and related library databases; ability to troubleshoot computers and other library equipment.
  • Knowledge of public library policies and procedures, including automated circulation systems and other library-related software preferred.
  • Knowledge of reference sources, principles of circulation, research, automated library systems, and other library-related software preferred.
