Job Description:
Your New Role – Digital Preservation & Special Collections Librarian!
As the Digital Preservation and Special Collections Librarian you will be working in the Government Information and Library Services division of the State Library of Oregon. The primary areas of responsibility are to develop and maintain preservations systems and services for digital materials; maintaining and managing the Special Collections of the State Library; and reference; instruction, and outreach services.
Responsibilities Include:
- Serve as the primary expert on digital preservation systems, tools, and processes.
- Develop sustainable, long-term strategies for digital preservation including implementing a system for digital preservation.
- Maintain knowledge of developments in digital libraries, digital preservation, and advancements in both infrastructure tools, services, and technologies.
- Test, research, integrate and maintain digital preservation software.
- Create policies, procedures, and identify workflows needed to establish, implement, and coordinate the digital preservation system selected for use by the State Library.
- Coordinate Special Collections and evaluate against existing collection policies.
- Essential work in this position also includes providing reference (in-person, phone, chat, email) and information services to library patrons from state agencies and the public. Conduct research consultations as well as lead and develop instructional classes to groups.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
- An American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master of Library Science degree.
Requested Attributes:
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital archives, preservation standards, concepts, and strategies, which may include schoolwork, coursework, internships, etc.
- Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards and languages such as Dublin Core, XML, HTML, and MARC.
- Experience with best practices in description, digitization, preservation, and access.
- Experience providing reference and information services to diverse populations.
- Experience with varied collections.
