Wellbeing Graduate Resident Ambassador, MIT, Cambridge, MA

The WellbeingGraduate Resident Ambassador (WGRA) is an integral member of the Office of Student Wellbeing (OSW) and the Student Support and Wellbeing (SSAW) teams in DSL. Working closely with both the SSAW and Undergraduate Residential Life (URL) teams, the WGRA will develop and implement programs and training opportunities to promote student wellbeing in residential settings and peer support programs. Through those programs and initiativesthat center wellbeing, students will be provided with opportunities to enhance their knowledge about wellbeingas individuals and within broader communities, engage in healthy decision-making,anddevelop and apply skills that promote healthy and purposeful living. These efforts will contribute to overall efforts to enhance and sustain a campus environment focused on promoting student wellbeing.

The WGRA role is a residential one-year appointment that begins approximately August 1, 2023,through June 1, 2024, with the opportunity for a second-year renewal following a mid-semester and mid-year review.The WGRA is expected to reside in the provided MacGregor House apartment for the duration of the appointment and is expected to work 20 hours/week, including some after-hours and weekend events,programs, and meetings during their appointment (some remote work is possible). A residential meal plans also provided as a way to build community and carry out the role’s responsibilities.

Compensation:

  • A one-bedroom on-campus apartment (Please note: the apartment designated to this position is on the fourth floor of a building without access to an elevator)

Duties:

MacGregor House (40%):

  • Establish a visible presence in MacGregor House through regular programs, events, office hours, relationship building and targeted communication with the house team and residents
  • Use the MIT wellbeing frameworks to develop, implement, and assess educational programs in MacGregor House (at least one program per month)
  • Serve as a primary resource to students and the MacGregor House team on topics related to student support and wellbeing
  • Attend relevant house team meetings

Program and Activity Development (40%)

  • Collaborate with the Jenez Graduate Intern, Assistant Director of OSW, and SSAW team to manage, support, and assess the Wellbeing Ambassador (WA) program and peer-to-peer initiatives
  • In partnership with the Jenez Graduate Internand OSW staff, develop and implement weekly educational and reflective training content to support student development, skill-building, student-directed campus outreach, and health promotion
  • ‘Supervise and train the Wellbeing Ambassador Events Team
  • Train and guide students through the event planning process and map out events, including approving budgets and helping students shape events to align wellbeing goals

Wellbeing Lab Co-Management (15%):

  • Assist with the management of MIT’s Wellbeing Lab(opening in Fall 2023), including in-person staffing, welcoming students, and serving as an on-site resource
  • Develop and implement health and wellbeing events, programs, and training sessions for students

Other duties as assigned(5%)

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate program (full or part-time) at an accredited institution of higher education is required. Candidates from higher education, educational leadership, student affairs, student development, health education, public health, or relevant fields are preferred
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Strong organizational, written and oral communication, and facilitation skills required
  • Must demonstrate self-motivation, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, ability to work independently and with others, and eagerness for innovation
  • Ability to work with a variety of community members, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff
  • Interest in events and programs is required, but former experience is not
