The University of Washington Information School (iSchool) is a leader in education and research on the future of archives, libraries, and librarianship. We seek a creative, forward-thinking Professor of Practice to contribute to this area by bringing their experiences and insights as a library practitioner.
The Professor of Practice will serve as a bridge between academia and the library profession and will lead the way towards enhancing the education of future librarians. They will be able to contribute to the teaching mission of the iSchool in several ways: by teaching courses in the MLIS program; by revising current core courses; by integrating some of the iSchool’s cross-disciplinary courses into the MLIS curriculum; and by developing new courses and specializations related to their areas of expertise and interest, helping to shape the MLIS curriculum to better reflect the needs of the future of libraries.
The Professor of Practice will also have the opportunity to bring their vision, expertise, and leadership experience to bear on a particular aspect of the library field to which they wish to contribute new ideas and knowledge in the form of a practice-based research or design project. This may involve engagement with students, other faculty, and other institutions, depending on the scope and nature of the project, but the results will be made available to the field through presentations, publications, and other dissemination methods appropriate to the work.

This position is a two year full-time 9-month appointment anticipated at the rank of Professor of Practice, not tenure eligible. This position has an anticipated start date of September 1, 2023.
The base salary for this position will be $12,666 – $13,888 per month ($114,000 – $125,000 per 9-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) from an accredited school and a minimum five years of professional experience by date of appointment. They should demonstrate a strong commitment to bridging teaching, service, and practice.
