Cataloger/Technical Services Librarian, Regina Library (Rivier University), Nashua, NH

Description:

Perform professional cataloging functions and prepare materials to be shelf ready. Perform a wide range of technical services duties as needed.

Will cover 50 weeks per year and 20 hours per week, exact schedule to be determined. There is some flexibility, but hours will be sometime between 8:00am-5pm, Monday-Friday, 4-5 days per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform copy and original cataloging in accordance with national and local standards. Facilitate
    batch processing of books and materials.
  • Participate in catalog quality control activities, checking for holdings information, duplicate
    copies, authority control information, and call number verification.
  • Prepare materials to be shelf ready.
  • Collaborate in the development of new policies and procedures.
  • Assist with interlibrary loan, acquisitions, serials, and other technical services tasks as needed.
  • Provide Educational Resource Center and circulation desk coverage as needed.
  • Participate in Archives and special collections tasks or projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Required

  • An earned MLS degree with a minimum of one to two years of relevant library experience, particularly in cataloging. Applicants who are candidates for an MLS degree with relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards and Library of Congress subject headings; experience utilizing these standards preferred.
  • Excellent attention-to-detail skills.
  • Must be well organized, self-directed, and able to meet multiple demands.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Knowledge and skills related to acquisitions and integrated library systems (particularly Innovative’s
    Sierra ILS), good planning and administrative skills.
  • Experience in an academic library, conducting reference interviews, and searching research databases.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products and basic technical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with special collections and/or Archives work.
