Desk Attendant – Teen Services Intern, Chelsea Public Library, Chelsea, MA

Position Summary

In collaboration with the Library Director and staff, oversee the Teen Programming for youth ages 14-19

  • Create and deliver a variety of youth programs that engage teens in developmentally appropriate projects ranging from social, recreational, educational and enrichment activities.
  • Helping youth and families locate materials and information. Maintaining user accounts.
  • Ensure programs meet standards of high-quality, best practices in Youth Development.
  • Provide outreach to and develop partnerships with other youth-serving community agencies.
  • Maintain ongoing documentation of daily activities, work with youth, families, and staff.
  • Participate in City-wide Youth Programs’ committees.
  • Maintain program materials and supplies.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Nights and weekends (alternating Saturdays) a must.

Part Time Evenings & Weekends (Saturdays)

Salary: $17.99//Hour

Five hours per week, 22 weeks per semester

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Enrollment in an accredited Masters of Library Science program highly desirable. Equivalent experience working in a similar role for a Library will be considered. Fluency in Spanish helpful. Experience with marketing, outreach, or fundraising. A passion for the arts, social justice, digital media technologies, video games.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

Good oral and written communication skills, to effectively, tactfully and courteously deal with those doing
business with and for the library. Able to understand and effectively use computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledgeable in effective filing systems. Chelsea residency is required for this position.
