Children’s Librarian, Bedford Free Public Library, Bedford, MA

Job Summary

The Children’s Librarian operates under the supervision of the Head of Children’s Services to provide excellent library service to children and adults.

Essential Duties

  • Foster a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for children and caregivers
  • Develop specific areas of the circulating children’s collection
  • Plan and lead engaging programs for children from birth to 5th grade and their caregivers
  • Offer thoughtful, individualized reader’s advisory and reference services for both leisure and academic reading
  • Connect with community members to extend library services beyond the building
  • Continually consider opportunities for growth in the Children’s Room

Qualifications

  • MLIS /MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution is preferred; may consider
  • MLIS/MLS candidates who have completed coursework related to children’s services
  • Familiarity with children’s literature and programming
  • Interest and knowledge of the current trends of youth-focused technology and applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, and additional world language abilities are desirable

Salary

The salary range is $60,543.65 – $78,702.98 per year. The Town of Bedford’s comprehensive benefits package includes sick leave and three weeks of vacation.

Schedule

The forty-hour-a-week schedule (including a paid lunch hour) requires one evening per week and one Saturday in rotation.
