Acquisitions and Rights Coordinator, Great Blue Hill (GBH), Boston, MA

Job Overview

Under the direction of the Associate Director/AAPB Project Manager at GBH, the Acquisitions and Rights Coordinator will work primarily on the American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) initiative with the GBH Archives. Working closely with lawyers in Legal and Business Affairs and AAPB Project Staff, they will be responsible for coordinating Deeds of Gift from negotiation through execution and will utilize AAPB’s Access Policies to make initial determinations about what digitized content can be made available in the AAPB’s Online Reading Room, including obtaining additional permissions when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with and educate collection donors regarding Deeds of Gift, including answering questions and addressing concerns.
  • Draft edits to Deeds of Gift to meet donor needs, working with legal counsel at GBH and the Library of Congress to obtain approval of such changes.
  • Process Deeds of Gift through negotiation, signature, and execution via DocuSign.
  • Create PIM records; review to ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation and metadata.
  • Handle various copyright-related issues, such as identifying copyright holders of digitized content, drafting permission requests or Deed of Gift amendments, and answering questions about how materials are made available by AAPB – referring matters to the supervising attorney as needed.
  • Review digitized content for Online Reading Room eligibility in accordance with AAPB Access Policies and applicable law.
  • Review “yellow-lit” content with legal counsel to determine appropriateness for the Online Reading Room. Such yellow-lit content may include privacy or defamation concerns, significant third-party material, music, or performance.
  • Respond to copyright-related questions from Archive users, referring matters to supervising attorney as needed.
  • Collaborate with AAPB staff and legal counsel to propose, consider, evaluate, and develop new or updated policies regarding access to the AAPB collection.
  • Work with legal counsel to draft contracts with new project partners.
  • Attend regular meetings with AAPB staff, legal counsel, and other meetings as necessary. Maintain a weekly work-in-progress log.
  • Train interns or other staff as needed to assist with Online Reading Room Review.

Skill Set

  • Must be able to work cooperatively with colleagues in a fast-paced production-focused environment.
  • Typing and computer skills required.
  • Familiarity with copyright law, in particular, the issues surrounding archival media
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills, keen attention to detail, and good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent reading, writing, verbal, negotiating, communication, and analytical skills are required.
  • Acts with integrity and makes ethical decisions.
  • Must have experience with Macintosh operating system, Word and Excel, and document comparison programs.

Education

A college degree and/or experience working in business or production environments are required.
