Adult Program Coordinator, Rockport Library, Rockport, MA

16 hours per week
$22.44 per hour union position
This position is funded through June 30, 2023 with the possibility of an extension

Duties:

Programming:

  • Responsible for assisting with planning, marketing, conducting, and facilitating adult programs, in-person and virtually, within the structure of a yearly budget
  • Research, contact, and negotiate with potential program presenters
  • Lead multiple programs each month as determined by library director or designee, including obtaining, preparing, and processing all necessary materials, ZOOM or other 3rd party platform invites and links if virtual, as well as acquire associated bills
  • Maintaining and codifying statistics associated with programs
  • Post links to virtual programs on various 3rd party platforms such as YouTube
  • Maintain a variety of programs and events while introducing new and special events
  • Coordinate programs to reflect library initiatives and strategic plan
  • Set up and dismantle program space, assist presenter, and ensure a positive, professional experience
  • Employ various marketing strategies and methods to reach a broad audience
  • Submit marketing materials to media outlets, write press releases, and maintain press contacts
  • Prepare in-house publicity and upload events onto the library’s online events calendar and social media outlets

Circulation desk coverage would be “as needed” and may include:

  • Checking items in and out for patrons
  • Registering patrons for library cards, communicating policies to patrons, filling patrons requests or holds
  • Answering telephone, addressing patron questions, assisting with the copier, scanner, and fax machines, general shelving duties
  • Performs other duties as needed

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
  • Detail oriented, strong communication skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and records
  • Ability to think analytically and develop new or revised procedures and workflow.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including formal communications and making presentations with the general public
  • Ability to make decisions in working toward assigned objectives, at times adapting or modifying work methods and standards to meet controlling conditions
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of multi-step procedures
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public
  • Knowledge of program and event planning, community outreach methods and programs
  • Current working knowledge of common office computing technology, library applications, and library automation systems, and be able to use online Internet searching methods and information resources
  • Individuals must demonstrate clear verbal and written communications, excellent people skills, and possess a demeanor of accessibility and helpfulness. Ability to work both independently and as a team member

Preferred:

  • Minimum one year of experience providing customer service and/or instructional or outreach services to the general public
  • Minimum one year of experience providing information services
  • Enrolled in an MLS program or has library experience
