Community Engagement Librarian, Acton Memorial Library, Acton, MA

The Town of Acton is seeking candidates for the Community Engagement Librarian. This is a professional full-time, benefitted, 40-hour work week position with significant responsibilities for library programs and services; including outreach to different community groups, and knowledge of current trends in libraries and library technology. They will report to Acton Memorial Library and report to the Head of information Services.


General Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for library programs for adults and young adults (ages 13-18) which includes designing, implementing, and evaluating of such programs. Manages library publicity; which includes creating content for social media, posters, flyers, routine press releases, brochures, handouts for library programs, and more. This position will perform outreach to the community of Acton, seek out public speaking opportunities to engage with the community and collaborate with other Town departments and community/area organizations. Coordinates staff off-site outreach activities such as Farmers Market, Employee Day, Health Fair, etc. Teach technology classes, explain library policies and procedures to the public, and fill in regularly at the library service desks as needed. Contribute to collection development projects and act as a member of the library’s various committees; including the programming committee and attend monthly meetings. Perform any other tasks and similar duties require similar levels of skills and responsibility as needed per requests from the library administration.


Minimum Entrance Requirements:

ALA-Accredited Master’s degree in Library Science plus the equivalent of a two (2) years of full-time experience in a fully automated public library. Library program and publicity experience; experience working with and troubleshooting common library technologies; experience working with diverse populations; demonstrated knowledge of current trends in library technology; excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional relevant library experience, and fluency in a language in addition to English.
Special Requirements:

Work schedule includes one (1) night a week and one (1) Saturday every three (3) weeks; possible occasional Sunday’s at time and a half.
Pay Rate:

OI -8; Starting at $28.31 – $31.86/hour; $58,895.12 – $66,286.98/annually
