The Goodnow Library is seeking qualified candidates to join their reference team as the Reference and Local History Librarian. Under the supervision of Head of Reference Services, the purpose of this position is to provide professional reference and informational services to library patrons and to manage the library’s local history collection.
This position will require both the ability to problem solve in a fast paced, public facing environment and the initiative to accomplish tasks during periods of downtime. A basic understanding of computer and technical skills is essential for this role as well as an enthusiasm to learn new software. Essential Functions:
The Reference and Local History Librarian provides assistance in locating information via all print and electronic resources in person, on the telephone and via email. Assists patrons in troubleshooting personal and library computers, and various other types of electronic equipment. Responds to patrons’ questions and concerns. Interprets and enforces library policies. Assists Head of Reference Services with collection development. Serves as a Passport Acceptance Agent.
This position also provides a variety of local history related tasks including collection development, organization, digitization, and preservation of local history materials. Ensures accessibility of archived materials to the public and provides research assistance on genealogical and local history queries. Establishes and maintains relationships with town departments and local organizations for the purpose of promoting local history resources, programs and encouraging community partnerships. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, set priorities and manage multiple projects.
Schedule:
15 hours per week. In addition, it requires one Saturday (7 hours) a month.
Job Environment:
In-person. There is not an opportunity for remote work at this time.
Compensation:
Position classified as Grade 6 of Town of Sudbury FY2023 classification plan. Starting pay will begin at Step 1; $25.08 per hour. Payment will be received on a bi-weekly basis. This position is not benefit eligible.
Eligibility for yearly step increases will be reviewed one year from hire date. Cost of living increases may apply.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. Applicants currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS program will be considered.
- At least six months of library experience
