Project Assistant, Harvard Law School Library Digital Lab, Cambridge, MA

Job Summary

The Harvard Law School Library has an opening for one 14-hour per week position beginning in February 2023. The person in this role will assist with the processing and digitization of the Charles J. Ogletree papers to help make the collection open for research. The Project Assistant will report to the Charles Ogletree Papers Assistant Archivist and work in close collaboration with the other Digital Lab staff.

This is a part-time temporary non-benefited position, 14 hours per week through June 2023, with the possibility for an extension contingent upon continued funding.

Salary: $20.00 per hour 

Duties

Core duties include assisting with processing the collection, including manuscript rehousing; preparing collections for digital imaging, including removing staples, unfolding documents, and flagging specific materials; appraisal and quality control of scanned images; and entering data into spreadsheets and collections databases.

Additional duties may include assisting with appraisal of the collection, inventory tracking, and deposit of digital objects to the Harvard Library Digital Repository Service. We seek an individual possessing careful attention to detail, clear communication, flexibility, and proficiency and enjoyment working independently and in teams. 

Requirements

The Digital Lab serves HLSL’s mission to provide open access to the library’s world-class collections. This position requires an MLS (archives concentration preferred) completed or in progress. Preference will be given to applicants with processing experience (internship experience qualifies); experience working with collection information databases, e.g., ArchivesSpace, Alma, and Aeon; knowledge of EAD; an interest in digitization workflows and digital collections; and experience handling special collections materials.
