Young Adult Librarian by the Sea, Manchester by the Sea Public Library, (Manchester by the Sea, MA)

Works to promote the lively Young Adult dept of the Manchester-by-the-Sea Public Library, with collection development, programs and services geared to this age group. Provides general assistance to teens, parents and professionals working with teens regarding collections, resources, programs and services. This position is primarily afternoons, with occasional evening and weekend hours totaling 15 hours weekly, non- benefitted. Pay is $25.16-27.34 hourly, DOQ, and non-benefitted. Manchester-by-the-Sea is an equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct programs for teens, with coordination under head of Youth Services.
  • Plan engaging programs and opportunities as part of Summer Reading Program.
  • Maintains and communicates data and information necessary for library records and advocacy, including statistics and records to evaluate services to Teens and on behalf of Teens.
  • Maintain and expand engaging informational online presence through social media promotion as well as materials and resources for department (i.e. flyers, brochures, booklists, calendars, etc.)
    Represents the Library at events in the schools and in the community.
    Works with department staff to evaluate and monitor materials, services and programs and makes recommendations for change and improvement.
  • Participates in Library wide campaigns and programming and participates as active team player.
  • Understands small libraries rely on fluidity of staff in assisting public’s varied needs.
  • Serves general public with enthusiasm in effort to assist the community’s educational and recreational use of the public library.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree
  • Working familiarity with library procedures and practices
  • Appreciation of unique qualities, interests, and concerns, representing in varied teen populations.
  • Proficient knowledge of current technology and computer skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of teen programming and activities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to communicate well with staff of all departments.
