Description:
Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the Circulation Assistant provides high quality customer service, supports all circulation functions in the library, and handles incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan items.
- 24 hours/week, including some evenings and a Saturday rotation
- This is a Grade 2 union position with a starting rate of $16.93 (as of January 1, 2023)
Essential Duties:
- Perform all circulation duties at the main service desk, including: checking out and discharging library material, collecting payments, registering new patron library cards, placing and processing holds, and answering and directing phone calls.
- Greet patrons and provide friendly customer service to all community members.
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan material through the CWMARS library network.
- Open and close the circulation desk.
- Provide readers advisory and information services to patrons in person or on the phone.
- Attend continuing education seminars, workshops, and meetings when assigned.
Potential Duties:
- Research, select, and deaccession library materials in order to maintain collections.
- Provide programming and marketing support.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in libraries and library resources
- Computer literacy and the ability to use a computer workstation for an extended length of time
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift loads of up to 40 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working in a public library
- Experience with Evergreen ILS and the CWMARS consortium
