The Newburgh Free Library has an opening for an Assistant Library Director II.
Join the management team of a dynamic, diverse and growing city library in the Hudson Valley of New York. This position requires strong and established leadership skills, the interest and ability to build and foster teams, proven capability in conflict resolution and crisis management, and ample experience with personnel, building and operations management. Experience with civil service and union contracts is extremely helpful. Spanish language skills are a plus.
Working alongside and under the general direction of the Library Director III, the successful candidate will enjoy working independently, exercising flexibility, innovation and decision-making, and inspiring staff to carry out the vision of the Newburgh Free Library’s Strategic Plan.
A strong work ethic and interest in creating collections, services, and resources for a 21st century library is paramount. This position oversees several departments and acts for the Library Director when needed.
Qualifications:
Six years of satisfactory professional library experience in a library of recognized standing after acquiring 5 years of college training in a college or university recognized by the University of the State of New York, 1 year of which must have been professional library training in a recognized library school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.
Special requirements for acceptance of applications: Eligibility for a New York State public librarian’s professional certificate at time of application for appointment; possession of certificate at time of appointment.
