Teen Librarian, Goodnow Library, Sudbury, MA

Full-time vacancy available at Goodnow Library in Sudbury for an extroverted
(natural or adapted) and energetic Teen Librarian looking for a unique
opportunity to gain experience at an active, innovative library. Unafraid to try
new approaches, the Teen Librarian will translate the needs and interests of
the community’s teens (typically ages 12-18) into relevant library services and
programs including STEAM/Maker Space events. Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Teen Librarian will be responsible for the following:

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with other local agencies and organizations serving teens,
  • Handling the development and implementation of all programming and publicity for middle school and high school students.
  • Planning and running the twice-yearly high school “Teen Study Week” at the library, including the staffing of extended hours, and coordinating study breaks and activities,
  • Responsibility for all aspects of collection development for teens, including: selection, analysis, reader’s advisory and weeding,
  • Managing library-wide social media campaigns for all platforms,
  • Collaborating with Children’s and Adult services staff to plan and implement complementary programs and services,
  • Coordinating the daily activities of volunteers assigned to teens,
  • Working regular shifts in the Reference and Children’s departments.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university; 2 years’ public library experience in teen services preferable:
  • Ability to develop tween/teen programs and services specifically designed to increase visibility and use of the library,
  • Willingness to assume a leadership role in department development and collaboration,
  • Knowledge of current trends in library services for teens and teen literature, media and technology,
  • Ability to work closely with the Children’s department to recruit and supervise high school volunteers,
  • Strong commitment to utilizing emerging technologies to enhance teen services,
  • Knowledge of standard library procedures, and current information technology.

Salary: $45,826 plus benefits
