Shain Library at Connecticut College welcomes current library school graduate students who wish to gain experience in an academic library. Shain Library staff is dedicated to building diversity in the library and information science profession. Applicants from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
The Shain Library Internship Program is an opportunity for library school students to gain firsthand experience in an academic library. Internships are offered in the fall and spring semesters. Opportunities vary and are based on available projects and the intern’s interests and skills. Interns receive a $1500 stipend per semester.
The goal of the program is to support the intern’s professional development in the following areas:
- Build a portfolio of projects relevant to current trends in academic librarianship
- Network with library staff to develop a deeper understanding of skills and expertise needed for academic library work
- Explore library positions and job descriptions to develop a career path

Qualifications:
Eligibility for applicants who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- is currently enrolled in an academic program at an accredited college or university
- has been accepted to an accredited college or university, which is scheduled to start within six months of the internship start date

We are not looking for specific academic technology skills or prior experience in an academic library, rather we want to hear about an applicants’ interests, hobbies and why you embarked upon a career in librarianship.
