Hourly Salary: $32.60 per hour (Schedule L)
The Town of Needham is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill the part-time position of Children’s Reference Librarian at the Needham Free Public Library.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
• Provide support at the Children’s Reference Desk
• Supply the patrons of the Needham Free Public Library with accurate and reliable information about a wide range of topics with consideration to the Library’s overall goals of equity and inclusion.
• Advise and assist individuals in selecting, locating, and utilizing library materials
• Answer reference questions and provide reader’s advisory
• Assist patrons with using library catalog, computers, Chromebooks, STEM materials and other technology
• Create booklists and book displays
• Help with book processing

Requirements:
To be considered for the position, applicants must have at least:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS), or currently enrolled in an MLS program with a concentration in Children’s Services
• Familiarity with automated library systems
• Ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently
• Capability to adapt to new technologies as required
• Ability to interact effectively and tactfully with the general public, especially children and their caretakers
• Experience working with children and/or public library experience a plus

Work Schedule:
Position 1   12-16 hrs week
Mondays 9-1
Wednesday 9-1
Friday 9-1
12 hrs week when not working a Saturday
Some Saturdays 9-1 or 1-5
16 hrs a week when working a Saturday

Position 2   11-13 hrs week
Monday 2:30-5:30
Wednesday 2:30-5:30
Some Saturdays 9-5
13 hrs week when working Saturday
Every other Sunday 1-6  (1-5 in Summer) 
11 hrs week when working a Sunday  (10 hrs week when working a Sunday in the Summer)
