Head of Patron Services, Acton Memorial Library, Acton, Massachusetts

The Town of Acton is seeking candidates for the full-time, benefitted position of the Head of Patron Services. This professional position will work a 40-hour work week overseeing all aspects and functions of the Patron Services Department, including staff hiring, training, and supervision and all circulation activity at Acton Memorial Library. This position requires current knowledge of library trends and best practices.
General Duties and Responsibilities: This position supervises 19 full and part-time staff; also supervises volunteer and Senior workers either directly or through delegation. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving any issues that arise. This position will develop and maintain Patron Services staff schedules; implement and oversee cross-training of all staff duties. Check materials in and out and renewing materials either in person or via telephone. Create and maintain a Circulation Customer Service Standards contract for the staff. Coordinate the maintenance of key items and library supplies with the Library Manager at West Acton Citizens Library. Assist users and answer library users’ questions and explain library policies and procedures to the public. Coordinate and maintain first floor displays. Process loan requests from non-MLN libraries and Comcat, compile circulation-related statistics for ARIS reporting, develop and maintain the lease book collection through Baker and Taylor. Perform these and all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library Science plus three years of increasingly responsible professional library work preferred; experience in library circulation work; supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a high volume, fully-automated public library or customer service setting; leadership skills; demonstrated knowledge of current trends in library services and technology for users; excellent organization and interpersonal skills; experience working with different cultures.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with III Millennium™; or Sierra™ ILS; participation in hiring decisions; experience using RFID, knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; experience in collection development, technology, and online searching; fluency or working knowledge in Chinese Russian, Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese.
Special Requirements: Work schedule includes one night a week and one Saturday in three; also, occasional confidentiality is essential; ability to travel occasionally to other sites in Acton, the Network’s Central Site in Natick, and other locations in eastern Massachusetts.
Pay Rate: I-11, starting at $32.77 – $36.89/hour; $68,178.50 – $76,735.62/annually
