Head of Material Services, Acton Memorial Library, Acton, MA

The Town of Acton is seeking candidates for the professional full-time benefitted position of the Head of Material Services. This position will work 40 hours per week and oversee all aspects and functions of the Material Services Department. This position will require current knowledge of library trends and best practices and will report to the Acton Memorial Library director. 

Duties:

The Head of Material Services will supervise two part-time staff; as well as volunteers or Senior workers. This position is responsible for the maintenance of the collection in the integrated library systems database, editing, and updating records. Manages the overall operations of the Material Services Department and supervises the part-time cataloguers and all aspects of the library processing. They will be asked to record and track the expenditure of funds by category for all library materials and processes all invoices for payment. Prepares monthly, periodic, and annual reports for the Library Director. Perform and supervises original cataloging and copy cataloging. Works with the Director, Assistant Director, and other department heads within the library to consider future direction of the organization. Oversees the acquisition of physical and electronic books, journals, and media for the library. Perform all other tasks as directed by the Library administration.

Minimal Qualifications:

ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science plus two years of experience in a fully-automated public library using RFID; significant experience in installing and troubleshooting computer hardware and software; knowledge of current trends in library technology; excellent organization and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional relevant library experience, especially in technology, knowledge of time management systems for public computers and website management would be a plus. Experience working at public service desks. Experience with Sierra Acquisitions preferred. Basic ability to catalog in several languages. Knowledge of Mac, Windows, and Chrome/Google products.

Special Requirements:

Work schedule includes one night a week and one Saturday in three; also, occasional confidentiality is essential; ability to travel occasionally to other sites in Acton, the Network’s Central Site in Natick, and other locations in eastern Massachusetts.

Pay Rate and Benefits:

I-11; starting at $34.77-$37.99/hr; $72,330.70 – $79,037.92/annually
