Description:
The Town of Acton is seeking candidates for the full-time benefitted position of the Head of Information Services. The position works 40 hours per week and oversees all aspects and functions of the Information Services Department, including staff supervision, collection development, interlibrary loan services and programming and outreach. In coordination with the Director or Assistant Director, the Head of Information Services oversees all public and staff technology as an acting liaison with the IT Department to help innovate library services. This position requires current knowledge of library trends and best practices.
Duties:
This position will supervise two full-time staff, as well as part-time staff, volunteers, or Senior workers. Hire, train, supervise, schedule, evaluate, and develop all Information Services staff and volunteers. Oversees the collection maintenance and development of all Reference, Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Periodical materials in all formats in areas of adult and young adult materials. Maintain the local history collection. Responsible for all public and staff technology as the IT department liaison. Identify needs for technology skills which go beyond staff ability to teach in-house and to find possible workshop leaders. Oversee the interlibrary loan services, assuring record keeping and reporting. Assist patrons with the online public access catalog and provide excellent customer service to staff and patrons. Over see all adult and young adult library programs and services. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Library Administration.
Minimal Requirements:
ALA-accredited Masters degree in Library Science plus three years of appropriate public library experience in a high volume, fully-automated public library; supervisory experience; demonstrated knowledge of current trends in library services and technology for users; significant experience in installing and troubleshooting computer hardware and software; library tech programs; excellent organization and interpersonal skills; experience working with different cultures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant prior experience in collection development, technology and online searching; experience planning and executing programs; website maintenance; prior experience with III Sierra™ ILS; fluency or working knowledge in Chinese, Russian, Spanish, or Brazilian Portuguese.
Special Requirements:
Work schedule includes one night a week and one Saturday in three; also, occasional confidentiality is essential; ability to travel occasionally to other sites in Acton, the Network’s Central Site in Natick, and other locations in eastern Massachusetts.
Pay Rate and Benefits:
I-11, starting at $32.77-$35.81/hour; $68,178.50-$74,500.92/annually
