Scholarly Communications Librarian for Research Infrastructure, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA

The Brandeis Library is recruiting for this exciting new position at a time when there is deep interest in scholarly communication topics across campus! This role is highly collaborative, and the successful candidate must be an active relationship builder and excellent communicator with the ability to work cross-organizationally to develop and communicate library services. Collaborations will include working with researchers from across the disciplines, research service providers within the library (in particular Research and Instructional Services (RIS) librarians), and key campus stakeholders such as the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Office of Institutional Research, and more. Job Description:
- Utilizes a variety of outreach and communication methods such as workshops, consultations, and library guides to engage researchers in the optimal use of Brandeis ScholarWorks and other scholarly communications related infrastructures; maintains the configurations to systems to manage, store, and make public the metadata and open access full text. 35%
- Utilizes appropriate research metrics, including citation analysis, bibliometrics, altmetrics, and emerging tools to assist faculty with articulating research impact and managing scholarly reputation; advises on and promotes communication techniques to support researchers in expanding the reach of their work. 20%
- Provides expertise and guidance on fulfilling federal mandates for sharing/dissemination of research outputs such as data and articles. 10%
- Provides analyses of bibliometric data for campus stakeholders. 10%
- Supports research workflows through the identification of appropriate tools (e.g., Open Science Framework, Figshare, etc.), and provides support /expertise for those tools; Develops an understanding of existing research infrastructures, tools, and workflows used by researchers at Brandeis to inform direction in this area. 10%
- Advises and guides Brandeis researchers on best methods to maximize their reach and online reputation through social media and other platforms such as academia.edu, google scholar, etc.; promotes the use of persistent identifiers such as ORCID, DOIs, etc. 10%
- Acts as lead contact for the Library’s subscriptions related to persistent identifiers (ORCID, DataCite, CrossRef, etc.), overseeing technical issues or projects such as implementing single sign-on, and keeps the library up-to-date on trends and issues in scholarly communications and related areas. 5%
Job Requirements:
Education: BS/BA degree
Experience: 3-5 years of relevant work experience A strong record of collaborative engagement around topics of relevance to scholarly communications;
Experience teaching and leading workshops; Strong analytical skills and orientation to detail; Strong oral and written communication skills
Preferred: Experience with research data management; An understanding of the academic research enterprise; Experience developing and using data analysis and visualization tools; Experience with bibliometric analysis using tools such as Scopus, SciVal, WoS, and InCites; Experience with Python or other data scraping and manipulation tools; Knowledge and experience in copyright law as it relates to fair use and library exemptions, new modes of scholarly communication, open access, authors’ rights and scholarly use of intellectual property
The hiring range for this position is $64,000 – 73,000.
This is a union position. Employees working in this position are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 888. Provisions related to wages, benefits and other terms of employment are contained in the agreement.
