Description:
Under the supervision of the Head of Special Collections Processing, the Project Archivist will oversee the transfer, intake, description and arrangement of a sports-related materials and memorabilia collection. The collection includes papers, visual materials, and 3-D objects. This position should expect to regularly handle different material formats which may be housed and packaged in a variety of ways. This position will work closely with the donor, library staff, appraisers, and external institutions to sort and inventory the collection as well as ensure effective communication among all stakeholders. This is a 18-month term-limited position.
Salary Range- $55,600.00 – $94,900.00 / Annually
Preferred Qualifications:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited school.
- Experience processing, describing, and handling sports-related materials and memorabilia including papers, photographs, and 3-D objects.
- Knowledge of current and emerging cataloging and metadata standards (EAD, VRA, DACS).
- Working knowledge of ArchivesSpace or related archival databases.
- Knowledge of sports history.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni.
- Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent project management skills and effectiveness in balancing multiple assignments.
- Excellent decision-making skills and the ability to work independently and take initiative on projects.
- Proven ability to foster productive working relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Ability to work under and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
- Prior experience working in an academic research library, ideally in academic archives.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in relevant field.
- Familiarity with archival standards, theory, and practice.
- Tw years of experience working in an archives or special collections.
- Experience processing, describing, and handling special collections materials.
- Interest in sports and culture
