Description
The Instruction and Engagement Librarian plays a central role in the Library’s efforts to cultivate partnerships with students, faculty, and the larger HWS community. The individual in this position creates, manages, delivers, and assesses innovative programming that inspires intellectual curiosity and enhances the Library’s role in student learning, research, and engagement. The position contributes to other aspects of departmental work including research support and information and digital literacy instruction.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide quality reference services to library patrons via in-person and/or virtual methods, including in-depth research consultations.
- Teach integrated course-related library instruction sessions and stand-alone workshops.
- Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty in support of student success.
- Create online instructional materials that promote and enhance the use of library resources and services.
- Plan and participate in the assessment of library instruction.
- Participate in discussions regarding purchase recommendations and collection development.
- Provide expertise in the library’s electronic resources, including review of and familiarity with licenses, keeping staff and users informed of updates and changes, and making recommendations for adding or eliminating resources.
- Assist with planning and implementation of library outreach events.
- Participate in initiatives to align library services with diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities.
- Engage in continuous professional self-development and keep current with emerging library practices, methodologies, and technologies.
- Demonstrate knowledge for the Colleges’ educational philosophy and mission.
- Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural, and economic circumstances.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Other Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative exempt position. The position is located in Geneva, NY. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s of Library and Information Science from an accredited program
- Knowledge of ACRL information literacy standards and framework
- Demonstrated interest in public service
- Strong attention to detail; commitment to efficiency and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish positive and productive collaborations with students, faculty, and library colleagues
- Self-motivated, dependable, and reliable
- Professional experience, preferably in an academic environment
- Experience working with Alma, EZ-Proxy, Springshare, and Summon preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups preferred
- Ability to project a positive and professional attitude
- The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
