Public Services Evening Coordinator, Assumption University, Worcester, MA

Description:

Basic Purpose: Supports library services by assisting library users, supervising student employees, and providing technical services support while maintaining a positive public service environment in support of the mission of the University. This is a 10-month, academic year position, August through May (summers off). The work schedule normally consists of 25 hours per week Sunday through Thursday evenings. Some holidays and additional coverage during exams may be required.

Accountabilities:

Operations & Services :

  • Provides services to students and other library patrons including circulating books, laptops, and reserve material, registering borrowers, and resolving patron issues.
  • Assists students and other library patrons in locating and using library resources, including both those available in the physical collections and through the librar y’s website. Assists users at the Research Help Desk when assigned.
  • Assists users with library equipment including desktop computers, laptops, printers, print management system, scanners, microfilm reader, etc. and performs basic troubleshooting.
  • Understands and is able to implement and explain library policies and procedures (e.g. handling overdue, renewals, etc .)
  • Assists with interlibrary loan activities.
  • Supervises routine collection maintenance activities.
  • Responds to emergencies, equipment failures, and any other unusual situations, and acts to resolve problems.
  • Collects statistics such as building use.
  • Responsibilities include closing the library, ensuring that materials and equipment are properly stored, and that the building is secure.

Student Supervision:

  • Assists with student hiring and scheduling.
  • Supervises student assistants, including providing initial and ongoing training and assigning and monitoring work. Processes student payroll when needed.
  • Models and encourages a strong public service approach to the work.

 Additional Accountabilities

  • Assists with library projects .
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work collaboratively while demonstrating initiative, resourcefulness, and commitment to providing excellent service;
  • Associates degree or equivalent;
  • Library experience preferred;
  • Supervisory experience preferred;
  • Experience with standard office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new computer applications and equipment;
  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University;
  • Must be vaccinated and boostered for COVID-19.

Additional Information:

  • This is a 10-month, academic year position, August through May (summers off).
  • The work schedule normally consists of 25 hours per week Sunday through Thursday, 7pm to midnight. Some holidays and additional coverage during exams may be required.
  • Interacts on a regular basis with Assumption University students, faculty, and staff, as well as visitors to the Library.
  • Operates computers and other equipment and uses a variety of computer applications.
  • Supervises student assistants.
