Description:
Simmons University Library seeks an Archivist & Digital Initiatives Librarian to support the daily activities of the University Archives and the management of its collections; and assume a lead role in developing and supporting Archives and Library-wide digital projects. This role contributes to the following: processing of incoming archival collections; provision of reference services; supervision of student workers and interns; developing and executing digital exhibits, digitization projects, and content platforms; outreach and advocacy; and Archives and Library wide planning and projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in Library & Information Science
- Strong technology skills and interest in and capacity for learning and applying new technologies
- Familiarity with current digital preservation best practices, digital library platforms, and cataloging standards.
- Experience with archives and/or special collections
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects effectively
- Ability to monitor and incorporate industry trends and practices into work
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an academic library
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to work cooperatively and collegially with students, faculty, and colleagues
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Committed to excellent customer service
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Experience with Preservica and Omeka platforms
- Experience working with a variety of metadata standards, including record creation using Dublin Core, EAD, VRACore, and MODS/METS schemas.
