Librarian (Part-Time), Springfield City Library (Library Express at Pine Point), Springfield, MA

Description:

The Springfield (MA) City Library seeks applications to work at our forward-looking, award-winning public library. We are recruiting talented, community-engaged candidates for this part-time, 18.5 hours/week job. Apply by Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 11:59 pm Eastern.

The Library Express at Pine Point Branch is co-located with two adult basic education programs, and the three services run independently and cooperatively. Popular uses of the branch include browsing for bestsellers and picture books, hanging out on our funky furniture, using the WiFi or the computer lab, and attending programs such as gaming or crafting.

The Librarian is part of a three person team and has shared responsibility for weeding and displaying print and non-print materials, programming, reference services, reader’s advisory, outreach, and community engagement, scaled to the size of the Express Library. Work is performed under the direction of the Branch Manager. Apply here.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and the completion of an American Library Association-accredited Master’s of Library Science. Candidates currently enrolled in an MLS program are encouraged to apply as well! You should be excited to work with people of all ages. You’ll need an excellent customer service orientation, and a “turned outward” approach to community engagement is ideal. The City of Springfield has a residency requirement and allows new hires up to a year to establish residency.

Our community is made up of over 156,000 residents from diverse backgrounds, predominantly Latinx, African Americans, and white folks, plus many new Americans. It is a young population, with a median age of about 32, and a burgeoning entrepreneurial movement. Over 57 languages are spoken in the public schools.
