Senior Specialist – Web Developer, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreesboro, TN

James E. Walker library seeks a talented individual to work as a Web Developer in the Collections Development and Management department. The web developer provides the support and development of web applications for the library, focusing on the main library’s website on LibGuides CMS, as well as the maintenance of related sites in content management systems, such as Drupal and WordPress. There may be additional opportunities to work with the library’s integrated library system (FOLIO), discovery systems (VuFind, EBSCO Discovery Service), and other custom web projects.

This position requires knowledge of front-end and back-end development skills for web projects. These projects include new and existing web applications that serve thousands of users, users with diverse research experiences, and various information needs. The web developer will also possess strong technical problem-solving skills and demonstrated knowledge of current technologies to help the library pursue continuous improvement to our user interfaces and user experience.

This position reports to the Discovery Services Librarian and is a member of the Collection Development and Management department. The web developer is a full-time position. We are able to offer a flexible work environment.

$51,415 – $64,011; commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

Required:

A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, or a related field.

Minimum one (1) year experience with website project management; development in a LibGuides CMS, Drupal multisite environment, similar content management system; development with PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript; responsive/mobile design; accessible design; user-centered design, usability testing; and cross-browser compatibility testing.

Preferred:

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in website project management; development in Drupal, LibGuides, WordPress, or similar content management system.

  • Previous work experience at libraries or other units in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience implementing UX methods
  • Demonstrated skills in visual design and interaction design
  • Demonstrated experience in multimedia creation
  • Demonstrated Linux basic system skills (e.g., Apache config, systems config) and other fundamental technologies in the Internet protocol suite for web applications (e.g., HTTP, DNS)
  • CIW Web Development Professional, Microsoft MCSD, or equivalent preferred
