The Arizona State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State, is located in Phoenix – in the heart of the Valley of the Sun. The State Library’s mission is to provide Arizonans access to information about their government, their state, and their world by offering content in a variety of formats, preserving Arizona’s history for future generations, and empowering local institutions to engage their communities in learning.

The Digital Inclusion Library Consultant works on the cutting edge of digital equity solutions in libraries. This Consultant manages statewide library development digital inclusion projects; conducts research in technologies, statistics, resources, grants, and professional development for library staff; collaborates with state and national partners; and keeps State Library staff informed of relevant state and national digital inclusion policies.

Ideal candidates are motivated and innovative. They continuously scan the environment for better ways to serve the needs of Arizona library staff. They are familiar with evolving Information and Communication Technologies, state and national public policies influencing digital inclusion, digital equity issues, and digital literacy. The candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science to be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages statewide library development digital inclusion projects. Project management includes planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Conducts research in technologies, statistics, resources, grants, and professional development for library staff.
  • Collaborates with state and national partners.
  • Keeps State Library staff informed of relevant state and national digital inclusion policies.
  • Provides advice and consultative services to librarians and library workers on a broad range of library-related topics.
  • Helps the Arizona State Library administration maintain public and provide partnerships that support library development. Participates in professional organizations such as the Arizona Library Association.
  • Represents the Arizona State Library in formal programs and presentations, as well as in written and oral communication at the national, state and local levels.
  • Participates in staff and organizational meetings, and in outreach activities.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Qualifications:

  • The DILC should have a thorough knowledge of the administration, organization, and operation of public libraries. In addition, knowledge of evolving Information and Communication Technologies, state and national public policies influencing digital inclusion, digital equity issues, and digital literacy is desirable.
  • The DILC should have project management skills and be able to plan, implement and evaluate projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills, which include time and other resource management, are essential.
  • Proficiency with productivity and collaboration software is highly valued.
  • The DILC should be able to organize and present complex information; communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing; perform environmental scans in the field of professional librarianship in order to stay abreast of trends and best practices; and work both in a team environment and individually.

Selective Preference(s):

  • Working experience as a library professional.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • American Library Association accredited MLS or MLIS degree
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License
