Tisch Library supports Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering, providing the services and resources to assist members of the Tufts community in their teaching, learning and research, with collections, expertise, and technology-rich environments to support the creation and dissemination of scholarship. The Access Services Department ensures timely and effective access to library facilities and collections through circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan and stack management services. We support the printing, copying and scanning needs of library patrons and provide basic reference services.
What You’ll Do:
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Resource Sharing, the Senior Library Assistant for Streaming Media provides access to streaming media for use in Tufts’ course management system. The person in this position manages the process for providing digital video materials, maintaining files in digital storage, and distributing streaming links to faculty for curricular use.
Responsibilities include:
- Copying optical media, converting video to multiple file types, uploading and maintaining files on media server, creating embed codes, subtitling, captioning and uploading files to course management system.
- Communicating status of requests with faculty as needed.
- Hiring, training and supervising student workers to assist in workflow.
- Resolving technical problems with production when they occur.
- Recommending changes to workflow processes, equipment, and software to maintain and/or improve service.
- Assisting as needed in interlibrary loan workflow.
- Serving on circulation desk as needed: circulate library materials; identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Participating in team activities and professional development.
Pay Range: $25.27 – $27.47 / hour. Full-time.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Bachelor’s degree
- Established success in a customer service environment
- Experience with streaming media; familiarity with media technology
- Excellent problem-solving ability
- strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Moderate skill with office productivity software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to evaluate existing needs and developing trends in streaming media
- Experience with an integrated library system such as Alma
