Reference and Information Services Librarian (Part-Time), Patten Free Library, ME

Description:

The Reference & Information Services Librarian will provide reference, information and readers’ advisory services to patrons.  The job will require eight to ten hours per week, with shifts to be determined; shifts will include Saturdays.

Typical work activities: 

  • Provides print and electronic reference and information services to the public in person, via telephone and computer; provides readers’ advisory; provides and performs interlibrary loan functions.
  • Monitors public access computer use.
  • Performs routine computer troubleshooting for patrons.
  • Assists and instructs patrons in the use of the electronic catalog and databases. May assist with conducting training classes on specific resources.
  • Assists and instructs patrons in use of computers and Internet.
  • May assist Department Head with assigned areas of collection development and programming for adults and young adults.
  • Performs circulation functions as needed, including issuing library cards and staffing the circulation desk.
  • May assist other departments with special projects.
  • Keeps informed of professional developments.
  • Attends professional meetings and workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics:

  • Good knowledge of modern principles and practices of library services.
  • Good knowledge of library materials and techniques used in public service departments.
  • Knowledge of library methods and procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend users’ needs quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use interpersonal skills effectively with staff and patrons.                        

·        Tact; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position: standing, bending, retrieving library materials from the shelves.

Qualifications:  A Master’s Degree in Library or Information Sciences is required.

Start Date:  As soon as possible.

Pay:  $20.36 per hour
