Records Manager (Full-Time), Historic New England, MA

Historic New England seeks a full-time Records Manager to create and implement systems that ensure efficient management of records and digital assets throughout Historic New England. Intuitively organized and systematically skilled, the records manager works with associated staff to review, revise, and improve existing procedures, while identifying new and innovative opportunities for improved efficiency in our approach to records management. 

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and revising existing records management procedures, guidelines, and practices to ensure compliance with legal, fiscal, and institutional requirements
  • Assessing the institutional record holdings of the organization (including those in Historic New England’s Center for Preservation and Collections in Haverhill. Mass., in the Library and Archives, and at all properties) to create and apply retention and disposition schedules, identify records of enduring historical value, and develop a plan for collecting, preserving, and enhancing access to these records
  • Developing records management best practices and training opportunities to support all staff in their effective operations
  • Developing guidelines, standards, and best practices to effectively manage the digital assets of Historic New England and enhance their accessibility and utility

Skills and Qualifications:

  • ALA accredited Masters of Library Science degree and 1-3 years of progressive experience in archives and project management, with a high level of autonomy. Non-accredited training with combined experience may be considered in place of degree.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of records management theory, standards/best practices, and technologies
  • Experience developing and implementing a records management program
  • Experience in interpreting records management policies as well as providing advice and practical assistance to non- experts regarding records management projects, questions, and issues
  • Familiarity with legal issues surrounding the retention and destruction of records
  • Effective written and verbal communication with all levels of staff and management, including strong questioning and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with vendors, including coordinating orders, troubleshooting, and maintaining/updating/querying databases and websites
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Verification of full COVID-19 vaccination status or exemption approved by Historic New England prior to the start date of employment

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic concentration in Archives Management
  • Experience with digital asset management preferred
  • Experience in creating and implementing procedures for digital asset management
  • Experience in creating and maintaining records retention and disposition schedules and/or other policies

Salary: $55,000
