OER Commons Repository Coordinator for Massachusetts Public Higher Education (Part-Time), MA

The position will be paid $50/hr. The work may be done virtually. The role reports to the OER Coordinator for Northern Essex Community College and holds an advisory reporting relationship to the Repository Committee of the OER Advisory Council. We wish to fill the position as soon as possible.

The OER Commons Repository Coordinator oversees, manages, standardizes, and markets the existing Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub. This individual, who could be a part-time librarian or a library and information sciences graduate student, will be responsible for, and work in conjunction with, the Massachusetts state-wide OER Advisory Council to accomplish the following tasks:

Transition the Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub into a Massachusetts Public Higher Education Hub serving all public higher education institutions in Massachusetts.
Maintain a rigorous metadata standard that organizes material by discipline, subject, institution, date created, license, etc. to enable better discovery and reuse.
Develop and conduct a training and educational program for local repository administrators, librarians and faculty authors that would address best practices for adding, maintaining, updating, and removing material. The program would also educate instructors about open licenses, creating accessible material, instructional design, etc.
Support repository administrators, librarians and faculty authors in their work to add, describe, and curate Hub resources.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the OER Repository Committee; a working committee of the OER Advisory Council and the Assistant Commissioner for Academic Effectiveness, Massachusetts Department of Higher Education.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All duties performed remotely according to the policies and procedures of this area.

Work collaboratively with the Massachusetts state-wide OER Advisory Council, including the OER Repository Committee, OER Commons (dba ISKME) and other entities, to develop and execute a process for transitioning the Massachusetts Community Colleges OER Hub into a Massachusetts Public Higher Education Hub serving all public higher education institutions in Massachusetts.
Serve as an effective OER advocate and leader among faculty and students across the Massachusetts public higher education system.
Manage the institutional repository platform technologies, including OER Commons.
Respond to general inquiries, fulfill requests, and serve as the first point of contact for vendors including ISKME, the OER Commons vendor.
Maintain a rigorous metadata standard to organize material by discipline, subject, institution, date created, license, etc. to enable better discovery and reuse.
Create and maintain documentation, workflows, and best practices.
Design, develop and conduct a training and education program for localrepository administrators and faculty authors to ensure best practices for adding,maintaining, updating, and removing material.
Support repository administrators, librarians and faculty authors in their work toadd, describe, and curate Hub resources.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Masters of Library Science (MLS), or an equivalent Master’s degree, such as aMaster of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Science in LibraryScience (MSLS) from an ALA-accredited program preferred, but not required.
Demonstrated experience in interrelated areas encompassing the responsibilities of this position, including: open educational resources, open pedagogy, copyright, scholarly communication, and outreach and engagement.
Creative Commons Certification or completion of other OER training program preferred.
Highly motivated, results-oriented and have the ability to collaborate with colleagues.
Ability to create and manage metadata.
Ability to perform multiple tasks and responsibilities within established timeframes.
Ability to perform the duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal Offender Records Inquiry System (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education.

SALARY: $50 per hour

HOURS: 10 hrs. per week.

BENEFITS: None. Unpaid time off allowed upon approval of supervisor.

AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Massachusetts OER Advisory Council.

SUPERVISOR: NECC OER Supervisor (direct), and the OER Repository Committee
and the Assistant Commissioner for Academic Effectiveness at the Massachusetts
Department of Higher Education (in-direct).
