Head of Teen Services (Full-Time), Robbins Library, Arlington, MA

Do you have a vision for excellent library services for teens and the desire to bring that vision to
life? Do you want to collaborate with library and school staff , community members, and
thoughtful teenagers to create a true destination for teens in Arlington? Robbins Library is
seeking a creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individual to join our staff and lead our Teen
Services Department.

The Head of Teen Services is responsible for overseeing teen services, programs, and
collections for 11-18 year olds, outreach to school and community partners, creating book
displays, posters, flyers, and other documents to promote library collections and services. The
Head of Teen Services provides evening and weekend support on the Adult Reference desk and
performs other related duties, as required or as the situation dictates.

Preferred candidates will be creative, innovative, and ready to learn and take on new
challenges. We seek candidates who demonstrate humility, humor, and a true desire to
partner within and outside the library; deep knowledge of library practices that offer
opportunities for teens to learn and have fun; an eye for creating collections, programs, and
library services that honor the diversity of our community; the ability to prioritize, juggle
multiple tasks, track budgets and execute programs with attention to detail; the desire to work
in fast paced and busy library.

Arlington’s public libraries include the Robbins Library in Arlington Center and the Fox Branch
Library in East Arlington. Arlington is a vibrant community with a population of 46,000.
Approximately 21% of our residents are under the age of 18. Our library is among the busiest in
Massachusetts. Last year, we circulated over 900,000 print and digital library materials.

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in library and information science; two years of professional library
experience; customer service experience working with teens and adults; teen collection
development, reader’s advisory, and programming experience preferred; or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
