Children’s Librarian (Part-Time), Robbins Library, Arlington, MA

especially Children’s Services? Do you want to work with positive and enthusiastic individuals
who care deeply about books and kids and are committed to the highest level of service? If so,
you might be an excellent fit for our part-time Children’s Librarian position. We’re seeking a
creative, energetic, and enthusiastic individual to join our outstanding professionals in the
Children’s Services Department.

Under the supervision of Head of Children’s Services, the Children’s Librarian will plan and
execute story times and other programs; assist in the development of traditional and non-
traditional library collections; create promotional materials to support programs and
collections; provide reference and reader’s advisory service for children’s materials; assist the
Head of Children’s Services with a wide variety of professional duties including liaison work with
the public schools; and perform other related duties as required.

Preferred candidates will be creative, innovative, have a commitment to doing all work through
a lens of diversity, be able to work independently and as part of a larger department, have a
basic knowledge of children’s developmental needs, a level of comfort with technology, and
have excellent problem solving skills.

Hours: The part-time Children’s Librarian will work 25 hours per week, including every 3rd
Saturday.

Qualifications: MLS Degree from an ALA accredited and recognized school with specific course
work or concentration in children’s programming and literature, plus one or more years of
directly related experience working with children OR any equivalent combination of education
and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities
to perform the duties of the position.
