Job Profile Summary:

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Communication Specialist oversees the university library’s communication and branding activities to both internal and external stakeholders, with focus and consistency aimed at broadening and enhancing its presence in the field, promoting the library’s strategy relation to direction, policy, goals, and objectives by creating compelling success stories and marketing materials. They will provide leadership for the library’s Communications & Engagement Group and the Web Editor’s Group. Duties include managing the overall library’s website, serving as a final approver for website content.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Commitment to contributing to the Library’s work in developing an environment that is inclusive and supportive of diversity.
  • Must have at least three years of experience in print and digital communications. A Bachelor’s Degree is required, a graduate degree is preferred. Experience can replace educational requirements.
  • Candidates should have a nuanced understanding of current social justice issues and relevant policy areas germane to the Brandeis Library context, as well as a sensitivity to approach difficult topics with care.
  • Must be a fast and accurate writer, able to synthesize complex information into engaging narratives
  • Experience with basic photography, photo editing and website content management systems a must.
  • Experience with basic graphic design and video production and video editing a plus; in the absence of experience, willingness to learn new multimedia skills a must.
  • Experience working in higher education, an academic setting, or libraries a plus.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Brandeis University is an in-person campus so the Communication Specialist is primarily an on-site position.

Hiring Range: $63,000 to $68,000
